Circumcision in the child

Home Home CIRURGIA PEDIATRICA

Health and male comfort

Evaluation of the difficulty in retracting the skin that covers the glans, distinguishing the situations proper to development from the changes that require treatment. Circumcision is one of the options when there is an indication for surgery.

How is circumcision performed?

In the AEGER Prima Clinic, in Lisbon, circumcision is performed by specialized urologists, with complete follow-up from the first consultation to full recovery, ensuring safety, comfort, and lasting results.

When may it be necessary?

Not all foreskin that does not retract is a problem — and not all cases require surgery.

It's not always a disease, IT MAY BE NORMAL

In babies and children, it is common for the foreskin not to retract completely.

It usually becomes mobile with growth, and if it does not cause symptoms, it does not require treatment.

The foreskin may fill with urine

Isolated, this does not mean obstruction.

An important rule: do not force

Forcing the foreskin back can cause pain, small wounds, and scarring.

Signs

There are signs that deserve evaluation

Request a medical evaluation if there is:

and stopped retracting

The medical examination distinguishes normal development from pathological phimosis.

It's not always necessary to operate

The age, symptoms, and examination of the child guide the decision.

01

MONITOR

When there are no symptoms and development is compatible with age.

02

TREAT

Local care or prescribed corticosteroid cream, when indicated.

03

OPERATE

Especially if there is scarring, recurrent inflammation, or persistent symptoms despite treatment.

Circumcision is a clinical possibility — not an automatic response.

If surgery is indicated

Circumcision removes the foreskin, including the tight or scarred area.
