HYDROCELES
Relief and Well-being

A hydrocele is a condition in which there is an accumulation of fluid in the scrotal sac around the testicle. This condition can cause swelling and discomfort in the genital area, usually being painless but potentially affecting quality of life. Treatment of a hydrocele is recommended when the fluid accumulation is significant, causing pain, discomfort, or aesthetic issues

Why is this treatment important?

A hydrocele may not cause pain, but the accumulation of fluid can affect the comfort and appearance of the genital area. When swelling is significant, treatment is important to relieve discomfort, prevent future complications, and improve the patient’s quality of life. Surgery is an effective and permanent solution to eliminate the hydrocele, while aspiration may be recommended for milder or temporary cases. Proper treatment ensures the patient’s health and well-being, as well as correcting the appearance of the scrotal sac.

During the consultation, the doctor will conduct a thorough evaluation of the scrotal area and the patient’s medical history.

How is Hydrocele treatment performed?

Hydrocele treatment can be performed in two main ways: fluid aspiration and drainage or surgery.

  • Aspiration and drainage: In some cases, the fluid can be aspirated with a fine needle, temporarily relieving the swelling. This procedure is minimally invasive but may not be a permanent solution, as the hydrocele can recur.
  • Surgery (hydrocelectomy): The definitive treatment for hydrocele usually involves removing the fluid sac through surgery, called hydrocelectomy. The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia and can take 30 to 60 minutes. The procedure consists of opening the scrotal sac, removing the accumulated fluid, and closing the space to prevent the condition from returning.
Benefits of Hydrocele Treatment:
  • Swelling Reduction: The treatment eliminates fluid accumulation, providing immediate relief to the patient and normalizing the size of the scrotal sac.
  • Pain and Discomfort Relief: By removing the fluid, the pressure and discomfort caused by the hydrocele are alleviated, improving the patient’s quality of life.
  • Aesthetic Improvement: The removal of fluid can correct swelling and scrotal asymmetry, providing a more balanced and natural appearance to the genital area.
  • Complication Prevention: Proper hydrocele treatment prevents the condition from worsening, avoiding long-term complications such as infections or damage to the testicle.
